Melania Trump says her new memoir will challenge the “misrepresentation” and “public scrutiny” she has faced.
In a video released on X (formerly Twitter), Trump says: “Writing this memoir has been a deeply personal and reflective journey for me.
“As a private person who has often been the subject of public scrutiny and misrepresentation, I feel a responsibility to clarify the facts. I believe it is important to share my perspective, the truth,” she said.
The video includes a compilation of black and white photographs showing Trump undertaking public duties with her husband.
The former first lady has often been scrutinized for rarely appearing in public, but it is not clear exactly what misrepresentations her memoir will seek to correct.
Newsweek reached out to Trump via the Office of Donald J. Trump website for comment on Thursday.
The 256-page memoir, titled Melania, is scheduled to be released October 8. Trump is selling preorder signed copies of the book on her website for $75. A collector’s edition copy, including bonus photographs and a digital collectible, can be purchased for $150.
The book’s publisher, Skyhorse Publishing, says Melania will reflect on her childhood in Slovenia and recount the “serendipitous encounter that forever changed the course of her life”—meeting Donald Trump.
A description of the book on Skyhorse’s website says Trump “shares behind-the-scenes stories from her time in the White House, shedding light on her advocacy work and the causes close to her heart. Melania offers an unprecedented look into her time as a First Lady who was born outside the United States—a role she embraced with honor and dedication. It brings readers into her world and presents an in-depth account of a woman who has led a remarkable life on her own terms.”
Rarely appearing in public, Trump has often come under public scrutiny. She has been absent from key moments in her husband’s current election campaign, including the kickoff event in Iowa.
Trump’s absence has led to multiple questions about her whereabouts. Last month, Kerstin Emhoff, the first wife of second gentleman Doug Emhoff, publicly criticized her for retweeting a post that said, “Kamala’s husband’s ex-wife is supporting her more enthusiastically than Trump’s current wife is supporting him.”
At the Democratic National Convention (DNC) last month in Chicago, former Donald Trump press secretary Stephanie Grisham spoke about her dealings with the former first lady.
Grisham, who resigned hours after the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol, spoke about her communications with Melania during the riot.
“On Jan. 6, I asked Melania if we can at least tweet that ‘while peaceful protest is the right of every American, there’s no place for lawlessness or violence.’ She replied with one word…’no,'” Grisham told the DNC.
